Stop Keyword Stuffing Your Website!

Over the weekend, I was looking into some activities for my kids. I came across something that just drove me insane and it inspired me to write a blog on it.

STOP KEYWORD STUFFING YOUR WEBSITE.

The algorithm bots get smarter by the day and they have come a long way since the first website was published in 1991. It’s much harder to trick them now. According to WebsiteHostingRating.com, there were 1.74 billion active websites as of January 2020. I realize that this number is pretty overwhelming, especially when you’re looking for ways to help your business stand out but I’m telling you this so you realize how many websites these bots have been able to practice their algorithms on. Trust me when I say that they see through your keyword stuffing!

Back in the day, if someone was looking for the best youth soccer coach in Delaware, it was easy to become to the first website listed on Google by stuffing the phrases “best youth soccer coach in Delaware” and “best Delaware youth soccer coach” into your website copy 150 times. Not only is doing this super spammy (it’s also called “spamdexing” for a reason) but it makes your website horribly difficult to read. As a consumer, I don’t want to read the same phrase a million times. I want to know WHY you’re the best youth soccer coach in Delaware. I’m not talking about putting keywords in your metadata or giving keyword topics on website, I’m talking about copy on a landing page or About Me page that reads like this:

“Jim is the best youth soccer coach in Delaware. In Delaware, he is the best youth soccer coach. The best youth soccer coach in Delaware is Jim. There is no better youth soccer coach in Delaware than Jim. If you’re looking for the best youth soccer coach in Delaware, it’s Jim.”

See what I mean? It’s like .. okay cool story bro but WHY? Why are you the best youth soccer coach in Delaware? Give us examples and reasons why we should hire you. Besides doing a better job of convincing your ideal client that you’re the person to hire, quality content and backlinking goes much further in boosting your SEO than trying to trick the bots by spamdexing. If you’re providing quality content, it makes people much more likely to backlink your website and you show up as more of an authority in your industry.

So instead of trying to trick bots into boosting your website, focus more on providing your ideal audience with quality content. Providing quality content and a reason for your ideal clients to trust and value you will go much further and help you scale your business much faster.
